David Culley was born on September 17, 1955, making him 66 years old. He was born in Sparta, Tennessee. He went to Vanderbilt for college and played quarterback there, becoming the first African American to do so in Vanderbilt history. Culley has years of experience as an assistant in both college and the NFL. He started his career at Austin Peay as the running backs coach. The next year, he went back to his alma mater, Vanderbilt. He coached there from 1979-1981 as the wide receivers coach before leaving for Middle Tennessee State to become their quarterback and running backs coach for a year. He then went on to coach in college from 1983-1993 ranging from quarterback coach to running backs coach to offensive coordinator. He started his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has coached for the Steelers, Eagles, Chiefs, Bill, and Ravens before becoming our head coach. He had stints as an assistant coach, receivers coach, and pass game coordinator. It is good how much experience Culley has, but this will be his first attempt at being a head coach. Although this is exciting for him and his career, he will have a tough time this season with the team. He got the team after Bill O’Brien dismantled our entire team, giving away Deandre Hopkins for literally nothing, letting Laremy Tunsil negotiate his own contract, and all the drama from Deshaun Watson. I think Culley is a good coach and will do his absolute best, but it is going to be a rough couple of years for him. Personally, I will not be quick to blame him for us being so bad because there is not much he can do. Hopefully he and the general manager have similar ideas and can help turn around the Texans back into a playoff contender that will most likely lose in the first round. Once again thanks for checking in and let’s pray that Cal sells the team.
